Uno de los sitios favoritos para el buceo es sin duda la fantástica Isla de Cozumel; dentro de ella existen sitios como Yucab, Maracaibo, Santa Rosa, Paraíso, Palancar y Punta Sur que destacan por sus majestuosos paisajes que atraen a miles de buzos cada año.
Dentro de Cozumel, destaca por su magnífica belleza coralina la Isla de las Golondrinas, con aguas que albergan un acuario natural sin comparación. Más hacia el occidente, se encuentra un fascinante e intrincado sistema de arrecifes vivos y petrificados que se sumergen de manera parcial o total en las cristalinas y tranquilas aguas del Caribe durante todo el año; ésta es una de las zonas favoritas de los buzos, debido a que es el refugio de las más diversas y hermosas especies marinas como tortugas, delfines, mantarrayas, tiburones y millones de peces multicolores que se concentran debido a la corriente que predomina en esta parte del arrecife.

A unos cuantos metros más, se ubica el talud continental que desciende abruptamente hasta 150 m, creando una pared que alberga en su penumbra a las más caprichosas y extrañas formas de vida; debido a la inclinación de esta pared, en ciertas áreas, da la impresión de estar nadando debajo de ella, lo que crea una ilusión óptica que convierte esta experiencia en algo fantástico.
Lo que hay que ver desde la superficie es tan hermoso como puede serlo desde cerca. Viva y disfrute esta mágica aventura bajo el agua que le revelará un mundo maravilloso.

The fantastic island of Cozumel is undoubtedly a favorite site for scuba diving, home to the renowned sites of Yucab, Maracaibo, Santa Rosa, Paraiso, Palancar and Punta Sur, which attract thousands of divers each year.
Within Cozumel is the island of Las Golondrinas (Island of the Swallows), surrounded by waters that hold an incomparable natural aquarium. Towards the west is found a fascinating and intricate system of live and petrified reefs that are either partially or completely submerged in the crystalline, tranquil Caribbean waters all year long; this is a preferred spot for divers, as it is a refuge for diverse marine species such as sea turtles, dolphins, manta rays, sharks and millions of multicolored fish that concentrate here due to the current that dominates this part of the reef.

A few meters farther and you see the continental slope that descends abruptly 150 meters out, creating a wall that shelters in semi-darkness some of the strangest and most interesting life forms. Due to the incline of the wall, divers in certain areas feel as though they are swimming beneath it, creating an optical illusion that turns the experience into something surreal.
What can be seen beneath the surface is so beautiful it must be seen up close. Experience this magical underwater adventure, as a marvelous hidden world is revealed before your eyes.

Por quinto año consecutivo del 15 al 19 de octubre, Riviera Maya será el escenario donde se llevará a cabo el Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival, uno de los eventos de cine más importantes de nuestro país.
En su primera edición (2006) se realizó en Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo con un éxito impresionante y participación de varios estados de la República, Sudamérica y Europa, hecho que motivó a los organizadores a continuar con el proyecto.
Algunas de las categorías en las que se compiten son: animación, experimental, documental, ficción o cine mudo.
La selección oficial de cortos en competencia constará de más de 40 producciones de varios estados de México, así como de países como Argentina, Portugal, España, Reino Unido, Israel, Estados Unidos, Chile y Alemania; además de la exhibición de los cortometrajes, se realiza un taller de cine, muestras de largometrajes, conferencias y recitales musicales.

El festival busca generar puntos de encuentro entre los realizadores de producciones audiovisuales, especialistas y público en general. Una interesante opción para los amantes del séptimo arte.

This year, from the 15th to 19th of October, Riviera Maya will set the scene for one of the most important film events in the country: the 5th annual Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival.
The first event in 2006 took place in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, with participation from various Mexican states, South America and Europe. Its overwhelming success motivated the organizers to continue the project.
A few of the categories of competition are: animation, experimental, documentary, fiction and silent films.
The official selection of competitors will consist of more than 40 productions from Mexico, Argentina, Spain, the United Kingdom, Israel, the United States, Chile and Germany among others; in addition to short films, there will be a film workshop, full-length film presentations, conferences and music recitals.

The festival seeks to provide a meeting place for creators of audiovisual productions, specialists and the general public. Within this international forum creators can exhibit their short films, experts can express their opinions and the public can become acquainted with important aspects of cinematography.
The Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival is an interesting event for cinema lovers and a great way to experience international film culture.

A partir del 16 de agosto del presente año, podrá contar con el banderín y el certificado (físicamente) que conforme a la norma NMX-AA-120-SCFI-2006 hacen constar el Nivel II para la playa del hotel Grand Velas Riviera Maya.
La certificación de calidad de playas surge en 2006 como parte de los programas de SEMARNAT y consta de dos niveles; el primero garantiza la zona de playa como un lugar propio y seguro para su uso recreativo. El segundo (siendo el máximo nivel) se entrega a quienes cumplen los estándares y medidas que contribuyen a que los ecosistemas costeros del país conserven su amplia gama de hábitat, la riqueza de sus especies, el filtro de contaminantes provenientes de los sistemas continentales de agua dulce, albergue de nutrientes, protección a la línea costera contra la erosión y las tormentas así como aspectos sanitarios y de seguridad.
Con esta autentificación se coloca a la playa de Grand Velas Riviera Maya como un destino a la vanguardia internacional en relación con esquemas similares, además de reafirmar el compromiso de proteger al medio ambiente y al visitante.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya is proud to have received another award that recognizes our great effort and reaffirms our quality status. As of the 16th of August of this year, we will be able to display the Level II banner and certificate of the NMX-AA-120-SCFI-2006 for the quality of the beach in front of the hotel.
The quality certification of beaches came about in 2006 as part of the SEMARNAT program, and consists of two levels. The first certifies the beach as safe, contained place for recreational use. The second (being the highest level) is awarded to those who meet the standards and take precautions that contribute to the preservation of coastal ecosystems of the country, conserving their environment and wide range of inhabitants, filtering contaminants brought from fresh water systems, protecting the coastline from erosion and storms, and meeting sanitary and safety requirements.
This certification places Grand Velas Riviera Maya at the international forefront in relation to similar conservation projects, as well as reaffirming our commitment to protecting the environment and visitors to the area.
